FOREST PROTECTION
Knowledge on processes occurring in nature and control of forest environment state allow foresters to diagnose early dangers which may negatively affect the forest. Each year they undertake actions aiming at retaining forest stability and increasing its natural resistance to destructive factors.
Forest protection is the basic activity of Zielona Góra Forest District and the aim is to protect the forest from dangers. Forest lands are located in proximity of urban centres (Zielona Góra, Czerwieńsk) which leads to numerous threat to the natural environment.
Threats are divided into three categories:
- biotic - harmful insects, parasitic fungi, herbivorous mammals
- abiotic - droughts, strong winds, early and late slight frosts, downpours, high and low temperatures
- anthropogenic - caused by humans: fires, littering, intensive penetration of forest area by tourists and undergrowth collectors, industrial pollution.
